Everyone feels tired at work every once in a while. If it becomes a consistent habit, however, then it becomes a problem. It interrupts your performance and you need to find ways to keep yourself more alert while at work.

Get Better Quality Sleep

If you’re tired, then your first course of action should be to get more sleep and improve the quality of your sleep. Typically, adults need between 7 and 8 hours of sleep. You should do your best to set aside this amount of time each night for you to get plenty of sleep. Additionally, you need to create an environment that allows you to get good sleep.

Ideally, you want to sleep in a room that is dark, cool, and quiet. You may need to gather a few supplies to help you. For example, blackout curtains can make sure there’s no light getting through your windows. You also want to make sure you are comfortable. It’s worth it to invest in a quality mattress and comfortable pillows.

Drink More Water

Your body needs enough water each day in order to function properly. Staying hydrated will keep your blood flowing, flush out waste, lubricate your joints, regulate your body temperature, and more. When you aren’t drinking enough water, your body won’t work as well.

Dehydration can cause fatigue and impair your short-term memory. Your brain has to work harder to get oxygen and you begin to feel sluggish. Throughout the day, make sure you are drinking water. Keep a water bottle with you and refill it often.

Take Productive Breaks

When you’re already tired and you force yourself to keep working, it can only make you feel more fatigued and less productive. Throughout the day, you should take some breaks. If you spend most of the day sitting, get up and move around. A quick walk around the office can help get your blood flowing again so you can feel more alert. Stepping away from your work for a moment can also let your brain relax so you can return to work with more energy. When taking a mental break, allow yourself time to do different activities. You can meditate, chat with a coworker, watch a funny video, etc.

You know your mind and body better than anyone else. If you’re feeling tired, then you should evaluate your life and see what might be causing you to be tired. Then you can take steps that you know help you feel more alert and productive.
