Business people working on concept ideas

Communicating is difficult enough within a culture where diversity of thought is challenging, let alone the challenge of a diversified work environment where culture and language is often at odds.
Feedback is essential for comprehension and for growth, and can also serve as a doubled edge sword that slices through relationships swiftly when not provided with clarity, efficacy and timeliness.
Consider the importance to effectively provide feedback particularly if we believe that 55% of our communications comes from our body language, 38% contained in our tone of voice or how we say what we say and the other 7% comes from actual words.

Here are 4 basic essentials to keep in mind:

1. Consider the Impact – You must have considered the desired impact of the information you’re about to share before you share it

2. Provide Solutions – Solutions are far more well received than opinion, so then craft your message in a positive tone that adds value to the discussion as opposed to accusative and self-serving opinions

3. Keep an Open Mind – Not all feedback is received well; often time it leads to spirited discussions that may yield and add value to the topic at hand; you must however be prepared and be willing to accept rejection without having a negative impact to your behavior

4. Maintain a Positive Attitude – Having the right and positive attitude will strengthen your ability to review and think about any and all comments hence allowing you to continue to provide the right type of feedback in the future – even if often rejected

Most importantly, remember this:

a. When feedback is not requested it will most likely be rejected
b. When asked, provide it with conviction and the right amount of passion to demonstrate your objectivity ….
